My husband asked me if I could sew a portrait of Rory Gallagher on his waistcoat for him - he was going to the 'Rory Gallagher International Festival' (held annually in Ballyshannon, Eire) in less than two weeks time.
And so my new venture was born. I'm not keen on the photographic portraits you sometimes see - you might know the ones; they are automatically digitized by the software.
I am a Digital Artist and my first venture into digitizing and machine embroidery was a bit of a fluke when I was in my Honours year in University.
I fell in love with the medium and continue to use it in my practice as a professional Digital Artist. The play of light on the embroidery thread is just amazing!
His waistcoat turned out pretty good and he received many appreciative comments in Ireland at the festival. In fact, I had to sew another one for his friend before they left, and he came back with a list of email addresses and phone numbers from other fans who wanted a 'Rory' waistcoat.
Once I realised there was a market, I decided to add other famous folk to my repertoire and am now able to provide designs for many other well known faces.
The designs are available to other machine embroiderers for use on their own creations. Although copyright is retained by me for all my designs, customers are more than welcome to use them on items intended for sale to the general public.
If you fancy adding a face to my gallery, let me know and I'll get to work on the design.
